Hi,
I suffer from severe migraines. I have high blood pressure and am taking many different bp medicines with no decrease in blood pressure. Any ideas why my bp hasn't gone down? I have eliminated any food that is know to cause headaches.

Hi Catherine,
After eliminating all the things you listed and still having migraines, you may need to cut out caffeine. Caffeine in any form is one of the most common triggers and irritants to the blood vessels involved in migraines. Some people find that even one cup of caffeinated tea or coffee causes migraines. To wean off of your caffeine beverages is difficult and frequently does cause a migraine, so go gradually! Decrease by one cup of tea/coffee every couple days. More drastic reduction will definitely cause a withdrawal migraine. Drink an lot of water and go slow! Sorry you have suffered.

hi,
I am a 34 year old female and have suffered with migraines for the past 10 years. They seem to be getting worse and lasting over 3 days. I have cut out alcohol, chocolate, cheese, dairy products, citrus-all the usual suspects. I have even tried the preventative tablet pizotifen. My mother and father have suffered in the past so i guess its hereditry. I have recently started having 2 cups of tea a day instead of 6 to try and cut down on caffine and i had a really bad migraine by the end of the week. Should i be cutting caffine out?

When you say that coffee can cause migraines, are you referring to the actual withdrawal symptoms and how the withdrawal headache can start a migraine?

Because I do know some people who feel their migraines getting better when drinking a glass of soda or cup of coffee... but maybe it would be better for them to skip caffeine altogether.

Headaches that recur daily in a pattern like this, frequently in the morning, tend to be caffeine related. Regular intake of caffeine, even if it is only one cup of tea or coffee in the morning can cause caffeine withdrawal and irritability of the blood vessels. As people get into this pattern more and more, the headaches get earlier every day, sometimes starting in the early morning hours in anticipation of the caffeine dose on the way. After you are up and about, have a caffeine drink, then it gradually subsides.
The other thing that is a common cause of daily headaches in females may be hormones, in the days leading up to menses.
If your headaches are not related to these common causes, and do not resolve soon, see a doctor for relief or prevention measures.
Best of health to you, Jean

There are so many things that seem to irritate the systems of people prone to migraines...foods, alcohol, sulfites and preservatives, fluctuating and low barometirc pressure with storms, not sleeping enough or at the same times everynight, stress, getting too hungry/eating irregularly,SMELLS(!), caffeine and caffeine withdrawal, soooo the bottom line is to truly balance the body, mind and spirit. Migraines are a message for us that there is an imbalance somewhere. Live and love well, learn how to manage stress, pay attention and nourish as best you can.

Enzyme production decreases as we get older, and the main dietary source is raw foods, especially greens and root vegetables. When we cook food we destroy the natural enzymes in the food, so most people ingesting the bulk of their food as cooked and processed eventually overdo their own enzyme production. By mid to late 30's this happens and people start complaining of indigestion, food sensitivities, stomach and other problems like headaches, fatigue. Foods become irritants if we can't digest them properly. Look at Garden of Life Omegazymes. Great product. I read an article recently on migraines and the enzyme connection. google it.

The ginger can be taken in tea form, dried natural crystallized ginger as a snack, sliced or grated into foods and also found as a supplement. Easiest thing is to cook with it , snack on it and drink ginger teas... Yogi teas has a nice lemon ginger tea.

Hi! I have been searching for an article like this for over 20 years. I do get migraines from the above foods but along with the migraines, I will have a period of depression, fatigue, and lower immunity. Once it's out of my system; I'm fine. Does this go along with the above explanation of an enzyme deficiency, and where can I find even more information? Thanks so much.
